Mein Name ist Marlene Ernst und ich habe dieses Jahr einen Austausch mit Sophie Birch gemacht.
Vorab kann ich schon mal sagen, dass mir der gesamte Austausch sehr gut gefallen hat und ich mich schon freue, wenn Sophie an unsere Schule kommt. Im Vergleich zu hier gibt es viele Unterschiede, wie zum Beispiel das Fahren auf der anderen Seite, die Kultur und deren Bräuche, das Essen und natürlich auch den anderen Ablauf in der Schule.
An Sophies Schule „Largs Academy“ werden Schuluniformen getragen und der Unterricht beginnt erst um 9:00 Uhr, geht aber meistens bis 16:00 Uhr. Dort laufen die Lehrer nicht von Klassenzimmer zu Klassenzimmer, sondern jeder Lehrer hat ein eigenes Zimmer und bleibt den ganzen Tag in diesem, somit müssen die Schüler, je nachdem welchen Lehrer sie haben, von Raum zu Raum laufen. Außerdem kommt es sehr selten vor, dass sie Doppelstunden haben. Die Lehrer dort waren alle sehr nett und sehr offen, mich kennen zu lernen. Vor allem die Deutschlehrerin Frau Gall hat mich freundlich aufgenommen und am Unterricht teilhaben lassen. Ich durfte sogar mit ihren Schülern/-innen Deutsch reden und Ihnen das Alphabet beibringen. Dabei war es auch mal spannend zu sehen, wie schwierig Deutsch zu lernen letztendlich ist.
An den Wochenenden haben wir Glasgow und Edinburgh besucht. Glasgow ist eine sehr schöne Stadt und mir hat sie persönlich besser als Edinburgh gefallen, doch für Touristen ist Edinburgh wahrscheinlich anziehender, da es dort mehr Sachen zu erkunden gibt, wie zum Beispiel das Schloss, die „Royal Mile“, die Kathedrale und das Scott-Denkmal. In Glasgow haben wir den Kelvingrove-Park, das Kelvingrove Museum angeschaut und waren anschließend mit ihren Freundinnen lecker essen und shoppen.
Ich bin sehr glücklich, die Entscheidung getroffen zu haben einen Austausch zu machen und würde es jederzeit wiederholen und deshalb auch jedem empfehlen. Auch wenn es bei mir nur für zehn Tage war hat es sich meiner Meinung nach trotzdem gelohnt und die Erfahrung war es dennoch Wert. Sophies Familie und Freunde waren sehr gastfreundlich und ich freue mich schon auf ein Wiedersehen mit ihr.

My name is Marlene Ernst and I did an exchange with Sophie Birch this year.
First of all, I can say that I really enjoyed the whole exchange and I am looking forward to Sophie coming to our school. Compared to here, there are many differences, such as driving on the other side, the culture and its customs, the food and of course the other things and programmes at her school.
At Sophie’s school “Largs Academy” school uniforms are worn and classes start at 9:00 a.m and usually run until 4:00 p.m. The teachers there do not run from classroom to classroom, but each teacher has their own and stays in it all day long, so the students have to run from room to room depending on which teacher they have. In addition, it is very rare for them to have double hours. The teachers there were all very nice and very open to getting to know me. Especially the German teacher Mrs. Gall welcomed me kindly and let me participate in the lessons. I was even allowed to speak German with their students and teach them the alphabet. It was also exciting to see how difficult it actually is to learn German.
On weekends we visited Glasgow and Edinburgh. Glasgow is a very beautiful city and I personally liked it better than Edinburgh, but for tourists Edinburgh is probably more attractive as there are more things to explore there, such as the Castle, the Royal Mile, theCathedral and the Scott Monument. In Glasgow we visited Kelvingrove Park, the Kelvingrove Museum and afterwards we went shopping with Sophies friends and had a nice lunch.
I am very happy to have made the decision to make an exchange and would repeat it at any time and therefore recommend it to everyone. Even if it was for me only for ten days it was still worth it in my opinion and the experience was great. Sophie’s family and friends were very hospitable and I’m looking forward to seeing her again.
